Pas de Calais is relatively undeveloped and this is rural France at its very best. The area is steeped in history, be it Medievel, the Battle of Azincourt or the infamous battles of the Great War & WW2. The Seven Valleys is a charming area, remarkably unspoilt with a wealth of cosy restaurants and vibrant markets where local fare is produced with pride. The Centenary of the Great War 2014

With the centenary of the beginning of the 1st World War, or Great War as it was appropriately named in 1920 around the corner in August, we decided to write this little post to give our guests an idea and some pointers as what there is around this area to do and see pertaining to this 'war to end all wars' A war that devastated the countryside of Belgium, Northern and Eastern France.

 

Golf

There are 2 Championship Standard Courses within 40 Mins from the house and another 7 within 1 hour.

Fishing

Trout fishing, Carp Fishing.. The choice is yours.

Again, arrangements can be made for you.. Just let us know before arrival.

 

Cycling

France is the home of the Tour de France. We have a limited number of bicycles for hire, to explore the hills and valleys of Bas Artois. There are plenty of cycle routes to choose from and they are all sign posted. Maps can be supplied if needed. Again, let us know prior to arrival.

 

Shopping

Heuchin is ideally situated. Paris is an hour and a half away and we have 2 Market towns within 20 mins, Hesdin, with its market day on Thursday and St Pol sur Ternoise with market on Wednesday.
Arras is only 40 mins away and this historic town with its boutiques and 2 main squares has consistently been voted one of Frances most beautiful cities. Saturday morning is market day and is a must. Lille is also within easy driving distant. Being Frances 4th largest city, this Northern Metroplis rivals the trends of Paris and has been recently voted Europe's Capital of Culture. Simply tell us what you are looking for and we will happily point you in the right direction.

 

Seaside Visits

From the History of Dunkirk to the Spa's of Le Touquet, the Cote d'Opale is a stunning piece of French Coastline. Why not take the short 1hr drive to visit the area and watch fishermen bringing in the days catch followed by a bowl of fresh mussels at a beachside restaurant? Maps can be supplied if needed

 

Festivals

The whole area is famous for its' festivals. Please ensure you book early to avoid disappointment, as these tend to be our busiest periods
